Browning ABolt stock question

Browning ABolt stock question - 11/14/14 12:52 AM

Question for the forum.
I have a Browning A bolt in 270 win. I have wanted a custom rifle, but can't afford one so I am going to upgrade this rifle.
It has the ugly gray stock - I mean ugly.

Question 1 - there are not too many I could find online. Any input on some good choices and where I can find them?

Question 2 - I read that only a gunsmith or someone with special tools can change stocks out on Brownings. Is that correct?
I have never done any gun smithing so I want to make sure I can actually do this before I spend money

Boyds has reasonably priced stocks for A-Bolts.

Boyds Classic for A-Bolt

This is the classic style, there are several others.

Stocky's also has stuff for A-Bolts:

Stocky A-Bolt

Some of these are advertised as "drop in", and don't require a lot of work to get them to work OK.

I have never replaced the stock on a A-Bolt before but I really doubt this is true. I can see where you might need to tweak the fit of the stock to the gun but a "drop in" stock usually means just that. And most after market stocks are in fact "drop in".

It's as simple as a Rem 700. I put a B&C on mine with just a little demel work for the safety.

You can do it yourself. I have an a-bolt and I put a Boyd's classic on it. I ended up having someone else bed it for me though.

You can also upgrade the trigger spring yourself
