308 lite, reduced recoil, managed recoil opinions - 10/23/14 02:55 PM

Does any body have any experience with the 125gn reduced recoil factory ammunition?

Looking for something a little softer to shoot in a Remington 700, 308 that will still kill deer and pigs at 100.

Yes. I have loaded and tested many reduced recoil rounds in the 308 Win. The 125 grain options work very well. My reduced recoil rounds run about 2400-2500 fps with a 125 grain bullet in a 308 Win. As a comparison, my 300 Blk Out pushing the same 125 grain bullet runs 2230 fps in an AR-15 and 2300 in a bolt gun. The blk out is plenty to hunt with for Texas sized animals. I've taken several animals with this set up. The 308 WIn is running slightly faster, and will be very effective. The 125's are going fast enough for good expansion and deep penetration. It will work fine!

I had a female friend take a nice buck with the Remington reduced recoil 125 grain 308 win at about 90-100 yards. Good hit, deer ran about 25 yards and fell over. Seemed to work fine. She went on to take another couple of doe's and all went well, no experience with hogs.

I have tried the Remington and Federal loads in my Weatherby 308. I think the Remington was lighter than the Federal. If you use it, make sure you re-zero your scope. Both were a good inch different than the core-loc's I had zero'd with.

I have used H4895 to make reduced recoil ammo for my 270, it has worked well.

I have used light for caliber weight sierra prohunters and been very happy with the results.

Found Hornady light in 308 for my 700. SST 125gn bullets shoot well and the sound doesn't shake the trees too bad.
Hope my youngest gets to test it for real this weekend.

Got the chance to test the Remington & hornady reduced ammo in 30-06 on ballistic gel. Both reduced recoil admirably and provided grate accuracy. I wouldn't hesitate to use it in the field.

if I had to pick I would go with the hornady as it seemed to expand more predictably at a wide range of velocity's
