Glock 42 now available

Glock 42 now available - 01/06/14 05:10 PM

The Glock 42 is now abailable. I know some of you don't like the 380 ACP, but I think for women it's a good size round in a manageable size gun in most cases. And they are available at a great price

Wow, that isn't a sexist remark... guess we know where the screen name comes from. grin

Also, it is marketed as a pocket gun, but it is the same size as a Kel Tec PF9. A little too big for pocket carry. However, I wouldn't call that a "manageable size", as it is fairly small to get a grip on.

Not sure how that's a sexist remark but if it gets your panties in a wad then I guess they are going to be in a wad. You may not think it's a "manageable size" but 380 frames are normally slimmer and smaller, better suited for most females hands.

Oh and as for the screen name, I explained that in another post, and you're wrong. But thanks for the erroneous reply up

Most are guessing the size is so they can release it in 9mm later

It was mostly in jest, hence the smiley face, but apparently you don't realize that you are inferring that women can only handle small, weaker rounds by saying that "for women it is a good sized round".

As far as this size gun being manageable size, I disagree. These are made for easier concealment, so compromises are made, such as a shorter grip. Pistols that do not allow you to get a full purchase on the grip are not as manageable as ones that do. These pocket guns are not range guns and are not easy to shoot well. If you were talking about a pistol such as the Colt Government 380, Sig P232, or the Bersa Thunder 380, I would agree that these are pistols that are well suited to smaller hands, and are manageable.

We can only hope. They should have went with the 9mm out the gate, as that is what the market wants. They are a couple years late to be jumping on the pocket 380 bandwagon.

I thought they couldn't import their .380's? What happened to that? And is this more compact than the .380 Glock has been selling overseas for years? confused2

They have a manufacturing facility in the US now.

I think these are made by the USA Glock company. A lot of newer Glocks are coming from the USA Glock which don't have the Tanifer coating found on the Austrian Glocks. The process to put the coating on is banned in the USA. EPA and all that jazz.

Pocket gun?!? How big are y'alls' pockets?

This gun seems like a ridiculous item to me. I can't imagine many wanting this gun, save the true Glock fanboys.

That's special Glock pricing if you are a first-responder. But GT still has good civilian pricing, as well. Probably closer to $500 for this one. (You can also get 1 discounted Glock per year if you are a current member of GSSF for at least a year. $425 for the ones marked $399)

Wrong, that $400 mark is a commercial price. LEO is cheaper, I just saw it

My mistake! Looked at GT dist homepage, and $319 is the LEO price.

I still wouldn't want one at $319.

I wouldn't call it a pocket gun. It would be a on a short list if it were a 9. I

Me neither, those were Glock's words, not mine. It is a bit big for pocket carry.

I really think you will see a bunch of Glock purist dumping the other 380's and jumping for this, just my thought. I'm not a Glock can and have no intention on purchasing one of these, unless my dept allows it for a backup, which is highly unlikely.

Would you carry it as a backup? Taking into consideration I'm not LE, when I carry a backup, it has to be concealed, I go with a j-frame revolver (M&P 340) with .38+p. I am just as good (bad) a shot with that as a .380 pocket gun, but with almost equal comfort in concealing, I go with the larger round. What do you use now? I imagine if concealability is not a factor, I would want something with common mags, i.e. Glock 22 & 27.

Speaking to a small number of active LE, many times at GT, I find that the S&W Bodyguard .380 and/or Shield 9mm or .40S&W are popular, for reasons I can certainly understand. I'm just not sure where the 42 fits in. Seems like a pure Glock fanboy toy.

On a side note, my thoughts on the Glock 41? Yes, please.

It's no P238, I think that P238 and P938 are the sweet spot for 380 and 9mm pocket carry.

I still want one rofl

I want a 238 but think it'd be a bit heavy/cumbersome for a true 'pocket' carry. I think the only gun that fits as a true pocket pistol is an LCP or smaller. For me @ least(5'8" 185lbs.) Bigger fellas may feel different.

Re: Glock 42 now available - 01/10/14 07:58 PM

I put my hand on one at gets today after reading guns and ammo talk about it. The author mentioned the trigger return spring was different, and it is but it Is attached to a chunk of extra ploymer that I think will be removed for the 9mm version as it is a channel running down the back of the magazine well. Over all gun feels awesome it is not lcp tiny more like lc9 or cw9 points great love the beaver tail I can't wait to pick mine up and runn some rounds down it

If I were to carry a 380 for a backup gun, yes I would carry this. My "backup" gun is not for when my duty gun fails, it is for a get off me gun. During the fight, if it ever came to it, and I mean I'm on the ground on my back and clearly losing the fight. My duty weapon would stay in the holster with my right hand keeping it securely in that holster. The backup, it would be hidden from the bad guy, easily accessible by me, and a surprise to the bad guy. That is of course the very worst case scenario.

I see. If it came to that situation, where you are actually physically engaged, would you not prefer a revolver? Just for the fact that it can't be put out of battery. (I trust you know your business, and what works best for you, I'm just curious.)

I'll use one as a backup once I shoot the piss out of it and make sure it's all Glock.
