Some dealers do it free with purchase

Some dealers might give you a free one but be careful. (I think fewer and fewer dealers are doing this because it constitutes the unauthorized practice of law and they don't want the liability.)

The biggest issue with getting a trust from a dealer is that you aren't protected by the fill in the blank trusts some of them give out. Just because the ATF will allow a trust to purchase a firearm, doesn't mean the trust is valid or the provisions don't violate the National Firearms Act. The ATF is very clear that they don't determine the validity of a trust, they only authorize the transfer. The problem will come down the road when law enforcement challenges your trust and a judge decides it isn't valid. If that happens, the trust is gone and you're in felony possession of a contraband weapon. It's an easy way to get you if they want to.

If you're going to expose yourself to the liability of owning an NFA firearm, don't mess around. The penalty for an accidental violation of the NFA is up to 10 years in prison or $250k fine, confiscation of all firearms, and permanent loss of your gun rights. Not something to mess around with!

I practice this area of gun law and offer several NFA trust options depending on how much flexibility you want. The basic NFA specific trust I offer is $99 and it allows you to bypass the LEO authorization and photo and fingerprint requirements. I have set up trusts for gun owners all over the state. If you give me a credit card over the phone I can get the trust done right away, e-mail it to you, and you can go to the gun dealer to purchase your firearm the same day.

Give me a call and I'd be happy to discuss NFA firearm ownership with you, the legal issues you want to be aware of, and answer any questions you have.

David @ The Voeller Law Firm just setup a trust for me. He's a great guy to work with. He has more to offer than just gun trusts. We'll be doing some additional business very soon

I frequently get asked what types of NFA firearms the $99 trust can own (and all of the gun trusts I offer for that matter) as well as how many firearms a trust can own.

The answer: The $99 trust can own any type of NFA firearm (and non-NFA firearms as well) and there is no limit on the number of firearms the trust can own.

You have to pay Uncle Sam $200 each time you purchase an NFA firearm, but fortunately the trust is only a one time initial expense!

If you have questions about gun trusts, feel free to call or e-mail!
