Accuracy is the biggest factor for me. AR-15 is much better in that regards.

There's a place for both of them. The AK is cheap ammo and fun to shoot and lots of hogs have died after being shot by them.

Definatly the AR. The AK is inaccurate and even less ergonomic than an AR. While im not a big fan of the .223 for game, i would take it any day over an AK.

Shot this group yesterday with my AK variant, it is accurate enough at 100 yards and oh yeah it makes a hole twice as big as any .223/5.56.

The key to ask yourself is are you willing to handload ONLY your hunting rounds to get this kind of 7.62x39 accuracy because factory russian plinking ammo aint gonna do it, accuracy wise.

Other things to consider is how you will be shooting at game, I don't care if you got a laser beam gun (i.e. tack driver) if you are standing and shooting then you gotta practice or invest in some shooting sticks.

Oh and lastly, the AK variant costs 400 bucks in a base configuration. How much is an AR?

You can build an ar for less than 500 bucks. 120 for a complete lower, 375 for a complete upper.

Shoot that ain't bad, not bad at all.

I just realized the Tantal is a 5.45x39mm so my above post is probably irrelevant, unless of course the original poster is wanting to use it 100 yards and in... I wouldn't shoot my gun past 100 yards would rather whip out the bolt gun for that.

Can probably get two solid AR15 built from parts for the same price as a good quality AK47.

AK prices are back down again? Thought they were in the $600 plus range for mostly foreign ones with just enough 922r parts and not the Century / PSA / IO stuff with brittle/soft cast parts or receivers that crack themselves after few thousand rounds.

This is spot on and they're probably generous on the pricing. Can probably go even lower if buying when there's a sale and still getting a good barrel and bolt carrier group.
