2015 BEST OF THE BEST PREDATOR HUNT - 12/05/14 03:04 AM

The hunters have spoken, we have listened, and given the answer we've all been looking for.

2015 BEST OF THE BEST

JANUARY 17TH

A predator hunter is a specialist. A smooth operator. He is not nervy or emotional, he is chiseled from stone. A predator hunter calls his prey, and makes one precise shot at an unknown distance on a predatory animal.

It is because of this definition and because of a desire to find the best at what we do that this hunt was started. A hunt that is truly 100% for predator hunters and brought to you by predator hunters. It is not a hunt that is won by having thousands of acres in fox country, or thousands in coyote country for that matter, rather one that is won by the skills of the men behind the light, behind the guns, and behind the calls. This hunt searches for the BEST TEAM. Not the best land, location, or the heaviest animals. It is not a hunt for the faint of heart, but if you think you've got the stuff then here it is.

COYOTE 1 POINT
BOBCAT 1 POINT
FOX (RED OR GREY) 1 POINT
HEADSHOT ANIMAL 2 TOTAL POINTS

Contest judges will have final say in any and all disputes
There should be nothing to argue about
All team members will be present at the weigh in
All team members must be able to take and pass a thorough polygraph
WITH EMPHASIS PLACED ON HEADSHOT CONCERNS
All animals must be called. They must commit to a lip squeak or call before the trigger is pulled
Team members will remain together for the duration of the hunt, ATVs are allowed, night vision is not
All team members will present a valid hunting license
All members will abide by the rules set forth by the Texas Parks and Wildlife
No baiting, trapping, or pooling of animals between teams
Hunt will begin at 12:00 pm Saturday, and teams not present by 12:00 pm Sunday will be disqualified
STRICT 5 ANIMAL LIMIT PER SPECIES
Ties will be broken by a timesheet logged by each team, showing the time every animal was loaded
for example: 16 points in 18 hours beats 16 points in 20 hours
An animal found with more than one wound WILL NOT count as a headshot
Headshot disputes will be settled by snaring the animal around the neck at its highest point, and hanging it. An ENTRANCE wound found ABOVE THE NOOSE will be deemed a headshot.
The FIRST 5 ANIMALS KILLED IN A SPECIES are the animals that may be "weighed in". this prevents teams from hunting for headshots

$500 entry per team with a 4 member limit
There are NO sidepots. A heavier animal does not indicate a better predator hunter
First place will pay 80% of pot, and 4 custom championship belt buckles.
Second place will pay 20% of pot
100% total payout. No polygraph cost or fees are taken from the pot

So do the math.... wont take many teams to have a pretty stout pot

Mail in entry can be sent to Tanner Monk PO Box 834 Stephenville TX 76401
Include all team member names, phone numbers, hunting license numbers, and entry fee of $500
Hunt will be held in Stephenville TX, and is a Texas State Wide Hunt

Weigh in will be on HWY 108 North
1.3 miles north of FM 3025, or 16.2 miles south of Interstate 20 and on the west side of the HWY

Call for face to face sign up or questions

So this is a head shot tournament?

Re: 2015 BEST OF THE BEST PREDATOR HUNT - 12/05/14 01:00 PM

No sir, this is not a Headshot tournament.

But it is a tournament that rewards the team for making headshots.

It's simply a way to increase how much an animal is worth, based solely on the skills of the team. Not based on one mans opinion of how difficult it is to call a certain species in a certain region.

Does shooting a coyote in the face with a shotgun count as a headshot even tho a few of the pellets might hit the body area?

With all do respect mr Oneal.... If you are going to examine a hunt so closely I would invite you to thoroughly read through the rules one more time.

It clearly states that an animal found with more than one wound it will not be deemed a headshot.

It takes far more skill to hit a poker chip at 100 yards with a rifle than it does to hit an orange at thirty yards with a 12 gauge.

I think you mis understood my intent on asking the questions. I guess I missed the part about more than one entrance wound. Sounds like a good hunt and good luck!!! up

I like the idea of it. I know it is too early to tell, but what kind of interest have you heard? How many teams would you guess will enter?

Re: 2015 BEST OF THE BEST PREDATOR HUNT - 12/05/14 08:00 PM

So far feedback has been good and we have high hopes for this contest.

The closest we have come to negative feedback is a few complaints about the entry fees, but the best are what were lookin for and big fees mean a big payout.

I'll make a conservative guess of 10-20 teams that have shown a lot of interest but whether they show or not only time will tell.

Re: 2015 BEST OF THE BEST PREDATOR HUNT - 01/19/15 12:52 AM

This hunt absolutely exceeded my expectations
Everyone was happy with a turnout of 25 teams on our very first year
Feedback has been great and everyone had a blast

Winning team was:

Chipper Lowery
Eric Washburn
Zane Washburn
Mitchell Edwards

Winning with 5 coyotes and 5 grey foxes
All shot in the head for a total of 20 points

Taking home $10,000 and the 4 buckles

Second place was:

Ethan Sawyer
Robert James
Justin Young
Joe Moore

Taking home $2,500

I have every intention of making sure that we have one of these every year, and making it grow.

Thanks to anyone that helped promote in any way
