Been eating a lot of Axis and some Nilgai. Loving Nilgai. Had Blackbuck too. I want something different now. How is Red Deer Meat? Tender, Hard,... ? I know some will say it depends on the way you cook but if you cooked it exactly like Axis, how would you compare to it?

I am getting a really good deal on both Axis Hunt and Red Deer Hunt. Cant decide between the two! Any thoughts? Or should I stick with Axis/ Nilgai.

Can't speak for the males, but I tried my first red Hinds 4 years ago, processed at Kuby's, loved the meat so much I couldn't wait to take another the following year. Very red meat, juicy burgers, not too game-y, tender back-strap steaks, mouth watering loins rolled in coarse salt & pepper, cooked Med-rare on the grill & cut on the bias, delicious chili made with the burger. I have nothing but great things to say about it, and same goes for the wife & 12-yr. old daughter.

Hope that helps. Looking to book another hinds hunt as we speak...any chance you'd share where you're getting that great deal?

Some guy on this forum under "Exotic Hunting" is selling them for $600 (Red Deer Hinds). Mulie Mike I think has Axis Doe for around $400 I think. Jay Whittenburg (www.huntlc.com) has Axis Doe for $350 including guide fee.

Red deer is comparable to elk. Elk beats both axis and nilgai. Simple, really.

Also, red deer is cheaper than axis, technically speaking.

I shot my smallish/youngish hind in 2010 and have eaten it multiple times since then; a 4-year old bull, an OLD hind, and a 6year+ bull and all tasted amazing.

Weren't you looking at a buffalo hunt? peep
