WOW! He's a beauty. I didn't even know there were Rusa Deer in Texas. I hunted Rusa in Australia a couple of years ago. That's a nice one right there.

Something else I notice about this stag, he's not all beat up and scarred up like the ones in Australia. The herd pretty much stays together and there's really not just one dominant buck, so the bucks fight it out nonstop during the rut. They're always going at it. Consequently, they are all scratched and scarred and marred up so they don't necessarily make a particularly pretty mount, although they have lots of character. This one doesn't seem to have all that marking up. I'm sure he'll make a beautiful mount.

Fantastic buck. I've never seen one alive before, or know anything about them other then the very rare picture I've seen of a very lucky hunter that has one. Congratulations!!!!

Looks like a Sambar Rusa deer cross. I'm curious as to why you would think that? It looks like the trophy pictures, I've seen from New Caledonia, where they only have Rusa.

Looks like a nice heavy horned Rusa to me, and I saw a lot of them when I was at the Kingham Ranch outside of Brisbane.
