These rams are in the Czech Republic. I think they have two things going for them (1) really good genetics and (2) age.

Don,
You asked about the age, and from looking at a few videos and trying to count rings, I am guessing the really big ones are 8 years old or better. (No Stumburg genetics.....you remember that post ...I still owe you)

Here is a pic of a ram I killed a while back in Texas. His horns were broken so I left them with the ranch manager to have his taxidermist do a European mount. Unfortunately the taxidermist boiled them (hence the cracks and shrinkage) Once I got them back I was a bit disappointed, but my taxidermist recommended someone who could repair them. So I had some of the cracks repaired and the broken horns repaired (cost me $1460). Measurements are at about 9 6/8 x 38 1/2, and I know there was shrinkage because when I killed the ram I measured the bases at a solid 10" maybe could have rounded up to 10 1/8.

great looking skull tony. Yeah i dont trust anybody anymore with my skulls to clean so that is why i macerate them myself in my backyard and they turn out great. I usually brush on a bit of mod podge matt where the cracks are on the horns, then seal with one coat of krylon gloss and one coat of krylon matte. sometimes i skip the krylon gloss step if i want the horns a bit lighter looking.
