Not that I want another hog epidemic, but it seems like warthogs would do quite well in Texas...reproduce well and thrive. Why so expensive and why don't ranches actively raise them? I guess they most likely would dig out of any fencing though.

There are a few examples of it being the other way. For instance, scimitar were $16,000 when I was there in 2009. Sometimes we have more of their animals than they do. You also have to hunt the animals that are indigenous to the area you are hunting. For instance, in Namibia, an impala was $2000, but in some areas of South Africa, they are as little as $300.

I believe the impala that was $2000 would likely be the Black Faced subspecies.

For 15K you can come hunt a Roan and as many pigs as you want and you'll have some money to buy your wife something nice.LOL

Where I was, the common impala was not indigenous to the area. Thus the only way to hunt them was on a game ranch (they were imported to that area). Thus the high price. Your better prices will be on animals that are either plentiful or indigenious to that area. The game industry throughout much, not all, of Southern Africa is similar to our Texas game industry.
