At least during the spring, actually other than seeing them during deer season and shooting a hen then I've never "hunted" them. So I'm curious what you guys hunt with? Shotgun? Rifle? Bow?

What type of setup do you use?

What kind of call do you use? I inherited my Paw paws turkey call and am looking forward to using it!

What have I left out?

Thanks,

Mel

Shotgun. You have the call, practice. Watch videos or recordings to see what the different sounds mean. Find the turkey and have fun. Half the fun is learning what works and doesn't work. Good luck and hope you get your first one with Paw Paws turkey call cheers

Shotgun is the easiest IMO to shoot them with, aim for the neck/head with. Calling them in close and getting them to put on a show is some great fun.

Easiest way to get one is have a feeder going in the Spring if there are turkey around the hens will find it and where the hens go in the Spring the gobblers will follow.

Different calls for different situations, but like txhuntr said half the fun is learning. It's a very addictive sport and you will end up owning all kinds of calls. Beautiful time of year to be out.

What they said, to add. Wear full camo, turkey's vision and ability to notice movement, are probably their best defense, be patient.

Almost forgot, TREX's secret turkey hunting weapon is staying downwind grin

Full camo in the brush with a call or a blind overlooking a feeder, much fun. Getting them to answer your call will be a rush for you.

No feeder! Most fun is learning to call them in, hearing them gobble in response, and getting closer, lots of patience, and don't over call. Around our place there seems to always be the dominate toms (w/sidekicks) that will 'hen up' and harder to persuade, but will always easily get the bachelor groups attention. As said above, camo is your friend, cause they have amazing eyesight. I hunt out of a tripod (mostly), set back up in a tree, w/burlap wrap around it, but have also set behind a tree, and in a pop up. Very addicting! They'll be up and moving at daylight, talking and gobbling like crazy at each other, and your call.
