Ok, it looks like I have some dumb turkeys at my place. I use to get a lot of action at my feeders until I put hog panels around them. Now they will not jump or fly in the pen. The pen is plenty large so that is not the problem. I have even put a couple of decoys in there to entice them, but no luck.

I have heard that a lot of people put their turkey feeders on a platform about 4 feet off the ground and this takes care of that problem. It would also not be in the pen with the other feeders. Does anyone have any ideas or plans for a platform like this. I was wondering the best way to do the legs to keep raccoons from climbing up. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

slant the legs of the feeder/platform and slide PVC pipe over them. That might slow coons down a bit. Make sure the feeder is of all metal or the squirrels will chew right thru the plastic.

Attach a "Slinky" to the top of each of the legs and when the coon grabs it to climb up it will drop it back to the ground.

Just give the birds time. They will figure it out

I have given them 2 years and they haven't figured it out yet, so I would like to try something different.

Sounds like you need a bigger pen. Turkeys can be paranoid. Especially in the hill country. Whenever I see hunting shows and the guys are sitting in a popup blind that is not bushed in..in the middle of a pasture I laugh. Our birds would never put up with that. How many panels did you use? Your going to need at least 10

What do you need them to go in there for? If they are hanging around without the feeders then they are obviously comfortable. Don't change a thing. Call them up this spring and shoot their lips of.

Every elevated turkey feeder set up I've ever seen, on every place, including ones we built at our shop for our lease, were filled once, maybe twice, then everyone lost interest and thought they were too much of a PITA to bother with.

My turkeys won't jump over my hog panels either. I just set up a feeder without hog panels and pour a bag or two of milo over the corn. Hogs come eat the corn, birds eat the milo.
