While hunting small game (cotton tail and jack) with my 22lr CZ. I spotted a coyote 60 yards out but didn't want to take a shot, wasn't sure 22lr would put the coyote down. Anyway, my question is can I ethically take down a coyote with a 22lr? Thanks

I carry a lever action 22 on my tractor and have put down many yotes with it.A good head shot and they drop.

Why wouldn't you shoot? A 22LR is plenty for a coyote at 60 yards. Why would you care if you unethically wounded him as long as he died later? A good coyote is a dead coyote.

Shot in the head or through the ribs and he's a dead yote. Not sure it a shoulder shot would work.

A clear conscience is often the sign of a fuzzy memory.

Sounds good, I will definitely will shoot it next time. As much as I hate coyotes or other pests I just don't feel right wounding an animal. But next time I will definitely put one in the head. I usually used my 223 coyote in the past.

A straight on shot to the head might glance off. A side shot to the head would be best. As mentioned above, a shot to the heart or lungs while missing the shoulder blade would get the job done.

First coyote I ever killed was with a S&W 63 revolver at 20 yards. More than enough IMO

Yes. A 22 lr can put a hog down so a coyote should not be a problem

They always say a 22 has killed more deer than any other caliber (East Texas anyways roflmao) so I wouldn't hesitate to take that shot.

I would rather have a .22 mag but a well placed shot from a .22 long rifle will work.

I shoot several a ear in the yard with a suppressed 22lr. Head shot works great but a lung shot does too.
Sometimes with a lung shot they will run away but that just keeps me from having to drag them out to the pasture.
