Went to the lease over Memorial Day Weekend. Friday night, after an awesome lighting storm display I went out for the night. Just about midnight, I was walking one of the roads when I spotted a coyote off to the left, less than 50 yrds away, walking through an open field. Quickly set the thermal monocular on the ground, got a bead on him with the IR Hunter MKII. There was no wind and no moon. He had absolutely no idea I was there.... Until I clicked off the safety, which caused him to freeze... a fatal mistake....

Saturday night, went out again. Different field. VERY windy. Just about midnight once again. Was calling it a night, thinking it was so windy, I doubted anything would be showing up. Took one last look with the thermal. Spotted coyote about 75-80 yrds away coming towards me on cattle trail. She must have smelled me or heard me as I was setting up, because she turned tail and started to trot off... Clicked off the safety and she stopped and turned to look. Again... fatal mistake on her part...

Pics below... I have a video of the 2nd kill shot, but I still need to upload it. Will edit post when I do.

2 things.. the 120 gr Hornady SST 6.8 is deadly... Nearly every hog or coyote I have shot so far has dropped in its tracks. It is not so good if you are wanting an undamaged pelt lol.. and two... If you are in the dark and hear the click of a safety going off, you best take off running lol

1st yote.. entry and exit

2nd... entry and exit...

Nice shootin'.

People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf
