On this hunt I had the UNV doubler on my Photon XT. Other accessories include the UNV 20 IR and UNV MDVR. Shot was 97 yards in gusty winds on a 29 degree night. Hope you enjoy the vid...

Great shot and video. I like that doubler, is is specifically for the XT or is that the one that is for the original photon?

Great shot and video. I like that doubler, is is specifically for the XT or is that the one that is for the original photon? The doubler was made for the original Photon, but works just the same on the XT. It seems to make the image a little crisper as well. Tyler has them. I enjoy your vids as well. You take all the extra time to add the little interviews in and such. Gives it a professional feel. Nice work. I'm afraid I don't have a TV face or a radio voice...

Nice! Which ammo did u use
Fast paced gregarious society forgets the healing power of solitude. It's worked thousands of years. Casting a line/gazing into a campfire/sitting in a blind after a long week is medicine for the soul. The serenity and peacefulness of it all is majestic.

Hehe! This is what I love. Lots of folks say FMJ won't do the trick. Ever since Iw've had that AR, I have tried all sorts of ammo. The ammo that has run most consistently and is always accurate is about the cheapest around. The old Russian Bear 123 grain FMJ. That is what I used. This hog flipped anf flopped a bit, but he went nowhere. Killed lots of hogs with that AR and that round. Note: I will continue to look for a different round that works as good or better, but right now, that round goes down range with confidence...and that is important.

Nice video! Tell more about the lights on the pen--and the one that came on from the right, apparently by motion detection? red, green, white?? (Fido didn't seem to care)
Me and ol' RUGER, 74 years and still shooting.

The lights are a holdover from when we were using the colored flashlights a few years back. I thought of taking them down, but they still help with seeing if game is around. I use a thermal monocular for spotting these days, but still the lights add to it. The lights on the pen are regular garden variety rechargeable LED landscape lights from Lowes. I think they have been there like 5 years. The one that came on via motion is one I made from a Dorcy light. It's been out there about the same ammount of time and runs off a 6 volt feeder battery, recharged by a 6 volt solar panel. Don't need them, but they don't bother the game and add a little light to the subject. This is the motion light I made:

Awesome video! I have been toying with the idea of night vision for a pig gun, I just don't know anything about them and don't have thousands to spend. That looked great to me and for way less than thermal.

A good many get around to using a thermal monocular for spotting and a digital scope for shooting. Does a great job for most needs. The Photon XT is a good tool at a great price!

Yes, digital night vision is a great way to get started. In another specific market, DNV would be likened to a gateway drug.

I just ordered an xt from opticsplanet. Can't wait. In the video, is your illuminator on? That is some killer music, by the way.

Thanks! I don't use the factory illuminator. It's OK, I guess. I use the UNV 20 IR.

Thanks! I don't use the factory illuminator. It's OK, I guess. I use the UNV 20 IR. I have the predecessor to the XT, the 3.5X Photon http://www.ultimatenightvision.com/Photon-3-5X-Digital-Rifle-Scope-p/sightmark-photon-3.5x.htm and although I have a UNV 20 illuminator I don't depend on it. The on-board illuminator works pretty well for the ranges I shoot (75-100 yards). However, my favorite use of the Photon is to get out and hunt beginning about 1—1½ hours before sunup. As the sky begins to brighten there's enough light to see quite well, typically up to a half-mile or greater. I sit at the edge of a pasture and scan across looking for hogs, and then sneak up from downwind when I find some. usually it's still too dark to see anything, and that includes the hogs seeing me. I get to within 50-60 yards and blast 'em! If I don't see anything before it gets light, it doesn't matter since the digital NV works in the daylight also. I can stay out an hour or more past sunup with the same rifle if I want.
I have two unwritten rules: 1. 2.
