I’ve mentioned previously that every time I take the 220 or 223 out to hunt coyote, pigs show up. It hardly ever fails to happen. Sooooo, I parked the 40 gr Ballistic Tips and loaded up some 60 gr Partitions for the 223. Went in the back this afternoon and settled in to my comfortable chair and started glassing. Sure enough, about 5:30 here comes a small mob of pigs at 180ish yards. That Partition did a fine job, though the pig was only about 50 pounds. Now I need to test the bullet on a bigger pig.

I’d buy more Partitions if I could find them.

Why not just carry a bigger rifle? 243 would be perfect for coyotes and hogs.

Or get a 270, 308 or 6.5 creed, why not use a hog gun on coyotes?

The curse is when I take the 260 or 270 with me, I see no hogs. But when I was taking the 220 or 223, shooting little bullets and trying to call in coyotes, I saw hogs most every time. Sounds crazy maybe, but it just kept happening. So I found a good load with the Partition, took the 223 back on the power line, and here came the pigs. This time, finally, I was ready. Dropped that rather small pig like a bad habit. I want to shoot a medium sized hog and see if I get an exit with that Partition.

I used to think that it was odd that I would see Elk when hunting with a particular 30-06 but with any other rifle I was just getting exercise. I kept that 30-06 and still hunt with it though there is no logical reason for this to be true! That said I worked up a load using the 75 gr. Hornady BTHP for my 223 and it works great on everything so far. The Partition is a good bullet but wound channels will not be especially wide and I would shoot at the neck or spine.

I've been killing hogs with a .257 subsonic air rifle as far out as 128 yards. The heart sets just above the elbow. Just place the shot a inch or two above the elbow in the heart and it doesn't matter how big the hog is or how big the gun is. It's DRT.

They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason! nidea
