Hogs come. Hogs go. Sometimes we're covered up with them, sometimes we go a month or more without seeing any.

Except 1.

Over the past 3 years, there has been a big boar that has been amazingly consistent in hitting the feeders spread between my land, my neighbor's land, and a couple other guys near us. He has some sort of big loop he does almost every night, because everyone gets pictures of him almost every night.

It's not that we haven't tried to kill him. We have. All of us. He's just 1 step ahead all the time. I've had dozens of game camera pictures where he was at my feeder when I walked up but disappeared before I saw him. I've had equally many where he showed up within half an hour or so of me giving up. Two weeks ago, I got pictures of him on a pile of corn I threw out on the road. Little bastard ate all that corn while my neighbor was in his stand, than timed a walk through the tall grass perfectly to miss my neighbor stalking up on my pile of corn while he hit the feeder my neighbor had been hunting.

Coincidence? Or just a magnificently clever hog? We thought we knew. Thought this clever old boar had a bead on us bad. That notion died rather violently last night.

My neighbor had been hunting him hard all week. Almost every night. He caught brief glimpses of the boar sneaking in and out of the pasture just beyond the brush where he was comfortable taking the shot. He ran out of the woods briefly but scented my neighbor too quickly for him to draw his boy back. It just never worked out...

Until last night when my neighbor and his buddy were stalking up on some coons hanging onto the feeder. They emptied a .22 and killed a couple and walked up to check them out. Guess who was just sorta snoring in the brush right behind the feeder?

Yeah, he dead now. Can't believe after 3 years of being the sneakiest old pile of stank in the county, this joker went out by sleeping through a hail of bullets.

Guess he wasn't that smart. Didn't have permission from neighbor to post his face, so I cropped it out. Fella is pretty good sized, I think right around 200. Maybe a bit shy of.

Yes, I think we are all fat, dumb, and happy, when we are asleep.

Glad you finally got him, now you won't have to feed him any more.

God Bless

Good story. I always say I'd rather be lucky than good . . .

As the saying goes, even a blind hog finds an acorn once in a while and in this case, y'all were the blind hog. sleep2

Think about it realistically. This isn't an issue of dumb or smart, otherwise you guys don't come off looking so good, huh?

Glad you got him, finally.

scratch realize i'm bout as bright as a burnt out light bulb... While not able ta hunt my ta-go-to place for hogs, its archery only right now, & i haven't been able ta draw me bow back in a couple years.. Think the experts are right... Hogs are getting smarter, hogs are being able ta detect the green & red lights.. At corn feeder by creek just down from house, got cellular lights, & two cam's covering other corn thrower... No pic's nor sign of hogs. bang bang bang taken down lights & that sign that reads DEER CORN Hogs will be SHOT flag

Good story and glad you guys killed him. I think there is a underestimation of how good these guys can hear. One of the best ways to counteract this is with a loud pig pipe.
