Picked up a new pointer female three weeks ago...she is 4 years old and a sweet dog. I also have a 2 yr old female setter....a veryyyyy well tempered dog. Well they seem to hate each other! I can't even hunt them together much less fed or travel them. If I let them out at the same time at home or in the field they both go straight towards each other and immediately go to a death fight. I've been hunting birds and running dogs for 40 years and I've never had a problem like this so if anyone has some advise I'd really appreciate some help.

You may have to choose a dog. Perhaps you can trade for a male. If you got the dog from a reputable kennel, or trainer they may let you return the dog or trade for a different one. You might check the setter for thyroid issues however, some strains of setters are aggressive to strange dogs and overly protective of the owner.
(Trying to work through feuding dogs like this is very difficult and dangerous.)

IDK the answer. Been lucky there.

All I can say is if you are the clear Alpha that can calm things down with some stern discipline sometimes.

Buy an electric cattle prod. Next time they go at each other hit em both and it will be cured quickly.

Little more info. There are two other females there as well. One yr old pointer and a12 yr old setter....no trouble with either of them with either dog....never had this problem . I thought I'd let them get used to each other but I finished up Kansas the last couple of days and tried twice to run them together...instant tie up. They neither one will get aggressive towards to me. Yrs ago I had a young male that was semi aggressive with me so I waited till he tried it again..grabbed him around the neck and threw him to the ground and lay on him for a few minutes and even growled at him...never had a problem again. But with both do this I don't think that would work. Sorry for such a long post.

Lol. Quail. When first ecollars first came out a old man I knew got one. He had a dog that would not let anything else travel in his side of the box so the guy put the collar on him and thought next time he tried to fight he light his butt up.....wellllll he did and the fighter thought the other dog had his neck i guess.....the old guy had to crawl into the box to get em separated and to get like 15 stiches in his hand!!!!

I don’t put up with fighting. I can usually get my point across to the mutts that’s not tolerated. However, last year I brought home a new gyp and she and another female of mine started fighting the moment I introduced them to each other. I kicked them apart and grabbed them up by the ears and shook them with a lot of NO. This stopped it for a while but it happened several more times. I thought I’d have to get rid of one of them. A freind of mine suggested I let them fight it out as long as neither one uwas getting killed and let it go. He said if that didn’t solve it he’d take my new gyp. They had a bloody brawl and the new gyp gave up and took a bad beating. Since then we haven’t had another issue. There were some bloody cuts on both, but nothing a few days didn’t cure. Maybe that will work for you.

My grandfather had two dogs that hated each other, a pointer and a hound, when I was a kid. One winter it got really cold for days and snowed. They kept fighting over the dog house. He shoved both of them in there together and nailed a piece of plywood over the opening and left them for two days. I don’t remember them ever fighting again.

I wouldn’t tape ones mouth shut. Thinking about it, maybe tape both mouths shut and let them fight until both cant stand and we have a winner. We may be on to something here!

This is a tough one. All situations are different. I'd send the new one back.

They just have a need to sort out the pecking order. When you break it up nothing gets solved. If you can't stand it then get rid of one. I'll bet they still give each other a said eye glance ever so often though.

That's the problem. They are both really nice dogs. Tho the setter is as hard of running dog I've ever had in 40 yrs. the pointer is real nice on singles and dead birds. If I could get em to hunt together make me the best pair I've had! That's why I'm begging for help!!!!,
