See any quail?

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

I was out at the ranch in Throckmorton last weekend and there were quail everywhere. Lots of big birds, but also several groups of very young birds. Almost certain we had a second clutch.

This time last year I was seeing only pairs on the ranch roads. This year it was groups of 6-12.

Buster busted about a 20-25 bird covey that turned his clock outside of Woodson. He was hunting a dead dove. Then a single after that that I bet was part of the original covey but I think the single ran. There were covey whistling everywhere at daybreak. Man that was beautiful. 2 years ago we never heard a bird.

Mr. Bill, they are everywhere in the Rolling Plains.
Saw them on the roads several times.
Our land owner said he's had them living in the barns all year.
The dogs busted coveys just fetching birds back.
....and of course near sundown they sang their songs.

It's will be even better this year...

I have 300 acres here at the house and I know of 9 big covets for sure.
Told my dove hunters not to accidentally shoot a quail!

Lots of birds in Rule,tx.
Saw them going in and out of the dove field. Put my dog on a few coveys in our camp area. First covey was the young birds. They were tiny and fast. Dog was still birds after the flush so I let her work the area and she ran down all the adult birds not to far away... I guess they ran.

Have seen quite a few birds in Moore, Donley, Hall, and Gray counties. Shaping up to be a good year.

Hunted between Woodson and Throckmorton daily. Seems every sunflower field we hunted had tons of birds calling and I busted several just collecting downed birds. One covey had an estimated 35 to 40 birds in it.

Landowner thinks they may have had 3 clutches this year...still some very small birds running around.

More quail than doves at both our places. Live oak county. Busted a 30 bird covey right by the house Saturday.
