I'm guessing you could. I just started a Jonny box and the birds have not been released yet. This morning I went out the to check and them and flushed a few quail that I never knew lived out there. I'm guess my 10 quail have been calling all morning and evening the last few day and called the wild birds in

I own a couple of calls, a Primo and a Thomas brand. I prefer the Thomas.
To me, they only help locate birds. Birds will answer the calls, especially in late afternoon.
The best locator though is the big nose on my dog.

I called a male Bobwhite into the campsite at my dads deer lease one spring while we were there turkey hunting. He circled us for 30 minutes trying to find that other quail. I used a Primos quail call. Also, blues are very vocal after being split up, you can get them going sometimes and know exactly where they are.
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

Go to the Rolling Plains Research Ranch site and look for Dale's quail calling Video. By fare the best I've seen. He can make them jump on your gun barrel. These are mouth calls but if you can whistle well he can teach you how and why.

The electronic covey basecamp re-call speaker works pretty well. It can be programmed to call only at certain times of the day. It really helps with Johnny House birds.

better not turn hens out of Johhny House this time of year as they will not come back like they do through the winter. They want to nest and the cocks will stay out with them.
