I've wined about Frank's injury that stopped his field trial season and forced his retirement but today just a quick shout out to the boy for his short career as a trial dog.

The final Purina Points award for Open Shooting dog derbies came out and with only 3 or 4 times down and 2 wins (last was Arkansas Derby Classic) he finished in 23 place. Not bad for not even competing in the last half of the fall and all of the spring contests. Way to go Frank (Sanctified)and thanks to Virgil Moore for bringing him along.

Looks like a great dog Chet. It sucks that he got injured. Hope to see him at the lease sometime soon.

Heck of an accomplishment. Too bad for the short career. He would have been a world beater I bet. You just don't get those type of dogs very often. Congrats Chet and Frank. cheers

I have him on typical joint meds that we humans take and a daily dose of Rovera. He seems to be running freely and after 15 min. running in the yard has no ill effects. So will try and let him hunt next season for short periods and see how he does. If he's not laid up for days after I'll let him hunt for short periods. I sure hope he can, he sure wants to.

Chet, After a lot of research I've started using T-Relieve as a anti-inflammatory on my dogs when needed. It doesn't have the bad side effects that can happen with Rimadyl, or Previcox.
Its been used by vets in the UK for years, and its also a lot cheaper.
If Frank runs into a problem, don't hesitate to send me a pm.

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

His eyes are closed. Maybe he's saying "I can do this in my sleep."

Not many like Frank come along. Hope you get to enjoy him for a long time. Sure would like to own one like him before I quit.
The best supplement I have tried on my dogs is Actistatin. The best bird finder on my string come up with what looked like a career ending bucked ankle in December. He's old with lots of miles and the kind of dog that will kill himself if you let him, no quit in him. My Vet checked him out and told me to give him Meloxicam for a few days to see if he would start walking on the foot and to give a dose of actistatin every day. Within two weeks he was doing so much better I took him back hunting but did not run him but one time a day. By February he was back to normal in performance but the ankle is still a little larger than normal but is good for a morning and evening run again. Acts like a puppy around the place on his off season daily exercise time. Actistatin might not help Frank but it won't hurt to try it.

Frank is on Dasuquin which is much like the drug you describe. 450mg Glucosamine Hydrochloride and 175mg Chondrotin Sulfate. Also on a small dose of daily Rovera for pain and as an anti-inflammatory. My vet recommended I use it so watching for improvement in movement etc. Right now (after several months on meds) he runs the yard with no apparent discomfort. Hoping for the best in the fall this year.
