Sitting around the tailgate following the youth hunt at Chaparral and talking about lease prices I wondered what would Chaparral quail lease rights cost if it were a private ranch. 15000 acres in South Texas, managed for quail, ranch house, etc. I have never leased land and honestly have no clue. It seems to be a good year for birds and maybe not such a great year for oil companies, are prices at a premium right now? I would be interested to hear from those that are shopping or currently leasing quail hunting rights.

My guess would be anywhere from $10 to $20 an acre.

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

When are you going on your first hunt. How is your pup camping along?

Hoping to go this weekend, family stuff in the way right now so it may be a week or two.
Last time I spoke with Rob he said he's coming along but strong willed. I try not to pester the trainers, but will drop him an e mail soon to check in back

Quail only full season, I've paid $2 per acre up to $2.50 per acre. It's getting harder every year to find quail leases when deer hunters will pay $4 to $7 an acre.

The difference is that deer hunters need a lot less acres per hunter.

That's the reason I dont have a lease anymore frown

Hunt 'em if you got 'em! They may not be here next year!
