I would have gotten the female lemon headed pointer that was for sale on this forum, but I didn't think I could outlive her. I just don't want to expire and leave a dog behind.

Lying is lying. Don't bitch about one doing it and condone another. That's called hypocrisy.

I don't need a new dog, but I'm always looking.

Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden.

Just a good season or two wouldn't bring me to get a ten to fifteen year commitment

No doubt solid thinking but my current pooch is seven.

Not if you have the time, money, space, and a place to run them.

Exactly, it's not cheap or easy to care for 9 dogs (what I have right now) Just the water bill (from washing the kennels) and the food bill (if you want to feed a good quality food) would shock you. And those costs are year round, not just 3 months a year. Then you have vaccines, wormers, etc. that are also year round, not to mention vet bills for rabies or any kind of injuries. Then you have kennel maintenance / repairs and the commitment to take care of all of them everyday, rain or shine, cold, wet, icy, doesn't matter, the dogs need out of the kennel everyday to stretch their legs and explore a bit.
The only thing I don't like, is that it is next to impossible for my wife and I to go anywhere, I would have to get a buddy to come stay at my house just so we could take a vacation, (we live next door to my parents but they can't handle them) we haven't been on a vacation since 2001 (only had 2 dogs then - boarded them).
But in all honesty, if my buddy in Oklahoma had gotten some pups out of his female EP, I was going to get one. Can never have too many bird dogs, right?

I feel you! Right now I've got a litter of 12, two hunting dogs and my girlfriend came with 4 mutts of her own. Dog poor I am not, just plain poor! I'm about to switch everyone over to Ivomec injectible to save money on heartworm meds. See how that goes.

Be sure you do not get the one for Liver Flukes Get the plain kind and squirt it down their throat. 1/2 cc for a 50 pound dog. Never give more than 1/2 cc to any dog. 100 unit syringes work well. Be sure and get at least a 26 gauge needle. Ivomec is thick.

Great idea. That will go in the memory bank.

That is 100% true. I remember too many Christmas trips and Thanksgiving trips to eat with family only to have to rush home to take care of the dogs. But every good run in a trial or a hunt made it all worth it.

Yup. We drove all the way to Lubbock & back in the same day once because of a funeral (7+ hrs each way, plus the time spent at the funeral). Long day. But having a truck load of bird finders come bird season made it worth while.

Things change, no new pup for me this year, well things have changed again, not a pointer but a setter. I'm no snob. I like dogs
