Pretty cool research done by Mizzou on common native grass/weed seed and duck/geese consumption. Good data on ragweed in there to suggest it's a common duck preference. I think the study overall is pretty indicative of what ducks like. I've done my own "studies" on ducks in the coastal marsh by checking gizzards and craws. I've always noticed Pennsylvania Smartweed to be one of the most predominant native seed down here.

As an agriculture major, I do know that is nutritional benefits are slightly better than lets say alfalfa, however I have never heard of it being used for waterfowl. I know smartweed is commonly used for waterfowl. Ragweeds ADF (acid detergent fiber) is lower than alfalfa in most cases, which means it's digestibility for animals is easier. I don't know if this helps much because I have never seen it used for waterfowl, but best of luck.

Thank you for the info. I bought a place last January, I went in and put in several ducks lakes etc.... Rains filled them up and I wanted to get something in there to start growing. I planted rice in the lakes I left the water in and fertilized them. I also planted Pennsylvania Smart weed and some other mixes around the shoreline. With in 3 days the ducks came in and ate every bit of the rice. I went and got more Smart weed and Golden Millet and a mix of other things. Everything really got growing good. Then the drought set in. One of my lakes is almost dry. Alot of what I planted turned brown and yellow. However, everything seeded out so I got it started for the future. I was noticing that the only thing that was green was the Rag weed and the Sunflowers. I was thinking about disking and planting Jap Millet. Then I started reading and found out Rag Weed is a good source for Quail and that got me thinking about what value for Ducks and Dove. Sounds like they will eat it. So may just flood it and see what happens. My other lakes I may just do Jap Millet in those.
