Well this far the real have saved our season. We have been getting a some mallards and a few pintails but the majority of our hunts have been 85%+ teal. I hunt in the Trinity river bottom in Anderson County. My comment/question is this, we have been taking over 90 percent drakes without trying. Has anyone else been expericancig this? The teal drake population seemed high last year but this year it seems crazy.

Late season in North TX GWT are always 90%+ drakes. The drake GWT don't migrate as far south as the hens - they want to be the first ones back up to the breeding grounds. He who has the best grounds will have an interested hen.

Thanks for the info. I did not know that. We typically have a decent amount of teal and had a lot last year. I just havent ever seen it quite so out of balance in my area before.

we've been shooting mostly hens when teal have come in, unfortunately. Wish we could get some drakes though!

shoot lead birds! I really don't care for the whole must shoot drake fad but with GWT it seems to hold true with lead birds

This makes perfect sense to me now. Last weekend close to the coast we had a BIG flock of GWT work right over the decoys, my buddy and I both took shots and dropped 4. They were all hens... I was sort of shocked. But it makes sense now with this theory!

If you stay ready, you don't have to get ready!

What part of the state are you in?

It is a good problem to have. No complaints here. I am just curious because the above information makes sense, but doesn't explain why the ratio would be so much higher this season.
