I think its about time to break out farther north for some hunting. I have had my eye on the Red river for a long time. I have a couple friends with airboats. We intend on spreading out on the river until we find the birds and then concentrate parties. After we find the birds we figured we would hunt two blinds in that area.

We drove up to Telephone and walked in to a slough.

That's what old school duck hunters wear . Every picture I've ever seen of my dad and grandfather duck hunting, they're dressed just like that. I'd say that picture is 70's

The picture is from 1969. I could tame a mallard with a duck call back in the day.

If you are going to hunt the Red Basin don't forget you must have an OK or Ark license depending on the location. My understanding there might be some areas around Texoma that a Texas license will suffice.

I think the whole red belongs to Oklahoma. I can buy a license online just to make sure. I need it anyway as I will be hunting up there a lot. I found a place in the woods outside Thackerville to rent. The owner has hunted his whole life up there. He said he would show my group the ropes.

On the RR, the waterline on the southern shore is where Texas ends. If you're on water, it's Oklahoma. The exception is Texoma.

Best spot to drop in is just N of Gordonville.

If you're rollin an airboat posse, plan on getting a lot of attention from the GW's. If they give you sh1t about no fed duck stamp on your OK license pull up the regs online and show'em your fed stamp on your TX license is legal for OK. One stamp on your TX license is good nationwide per the FWS.

Seems like there's 50,000 OK GW's for every TX GW.

After our Kansas hunt, I got the impression Wal's not one to stumble blindly into hunt without doing his due diligence. I gave hogman a detailed brain dump and gmap of that neck of the woods a while back. I'm sure he's briefed wal on the particular spot.

You gotta be a big baller to run the RR in the dark on an airboat. I sure as heck wouldn't do it. I have a hard enough time just keeping an airboat pointed in the right direction, much less making last minute course correctons to avoid snags and timber. In the dark clap

In the dark and unfamiliar territory is not good. I would have to run it in daylight a time or two.

Camo is way over rated. Back in the day about the most I would wear was a mil surplus jacket or a plaid shirt. Waders would be a solid green or brown. Red hats were all the rage. I started hunting on and around the RR when I was a teenager. It was no mans land back then and still is today for some areas on the OK side if your not a local. Respect the locals is my only advice.

John I have heard some horror stories. The cabin owner said we could go launch all the boats and bring the trucks and trailers back. He would then drop us off. No busted glass or flat tires.

I bet a stupid Tx politician made that deal. Where's Trump at when you need a deal done!

The line was drawn during the Louisiana Purchase. I have hunted the red since 1978. Oklahoma side.

Follow my advice and you wont have to. Been hunting the area and running the back roads there almost as long as centurion.
