Something natural and close to the blind was always most cost/time effective for me.

By the time the paint wears off, it has enough wear on it to look natural instead of yellow.

seems like a lot of people like to use palms, palmettos, etc. but unless you do like wind said and tone it down, they are entirely too bright when they dry in a lot of cases. When it comes time for big duck season, I've put in enough time and money that I don't cut brushing blinds short. most all of them get a very good base of smartweed that was scooped with a pitchfork. primarily on the top half, the top, and the dividers in between the shooting holes. After that, it is a mix of oaks, willows, some cedar, and tally trees. takes a lot of tally trees, but have clumps of them scattered around, so it just looks right. In some larger millet flats, I brush with all Johnson grass and that gets pretty close to the same tone as millet. Brushing done in sept and oct goes a lot farther. most limbs cut with green leaves still on retain them quite well. Scooping boat loads of smartweed with a pitchfork takes awhile, but it looks good.

I agree with using a base layer of palm and the top layer should the surrounding plants or bushes
