I'm probably one of few hoping this gets here. My doves spots aren't holding many anyway and it would do a lot of good for a dried up wetland.

As bad as I don't want to work a hurricane, we need it.

I don't care to kill a dove but I hope it doesn't rain another drop until next spring. We have good hunting on dry years.

Most Texas lakes are at or above pool, with many rivers still flooded.

Ideally, no rain till end of oct, where there is draw down let the veggies grow, then let the rain come and flood the veggies...

I don't care about lakes 300 miles from me. I care about the thousands of acres of marsh, pastures, and prairie potholes that flood with a couple good rains around here. All the rain that we got in May filled all of that stuff up but it dries up in a couple weeks. If we have consistent wet weather all throughout duck season we will have a horrible season.

Here's why I care. My brother bought a place in a good location last year, but the title was all hosed up and he had to get that squared away before he could do anything. Then the rains came so he got a late start. Finally got his wetland done a couple of weeks ago and planted a couple acres of millet last week. Crossing our fingers it'll make in time but it is gonna be close. Hopefully no early frosts.

The only water source right now.


Half the wetland with a good portion of it getting man made rain. The blind will go right in the middle of the dry spot.


Went out this morning to help him throw grass seed on the dam between the deep water / fishing / feeder pond and the wetland to prevent erosion. Rained came down sideways for 15 minutes, thought we might get stuck but made it out.


No pics cuz the rain but the millet was coming up real good around the 7 sprinklers. I doubt we'll be able to keep all of it alive unless the rains stay consistent, but at least that will take.

How do y'all plan on flooding that millet once it's ready? The feeder pond? Well? Or does it naturally flood the field with rain?

It's setup where the feeder pond (10 feet deep) will capture all the runoff from the rest of the property. It'll hold enough to flood the 4-5 acre wetland. There is a deep creek nearby, maybe 400 feet, he could pump out of if he had to, but I'm not real sure that's legal. Gotta find out if there isn't any good rain before November.
