Boys, the weather forecast for most of Dec is not looking good to bring us any ducks. It looks like most of the central US will be warmer/milder through the middle to later part of the month. All of the major weather sites are saying the same thing. From the reports I have seen there are a lot of ducks still north of us but it doesn't look like we will be seeing them anytime soon.

The weather sires are lucky to get the weather right just on an hourly basis, I think anything after a week or two Is just a guess.

Its been real slow here on the Barney for sure.....At the beginning of the season it looked like we were going to have a record year according to the amount of ducks I was seeing flying over the house, hanging out around the dam, and hanging out at the local ponds around here. It looks like a ghost town now. They have obviously all gone back to the north. On a side note we need a weather pattern change for sure. If we stay in the pattern we are in right now The Barney is going to see the lowest levels it has ever had since it filled up for the first time. I'm guessing somewhere between 15 and 20 feet low by next winter, which at the extreme end of that would probably completely dry up the waterfowl hunting zone.......... The good news is we have had enough rain to fill up most of the pools/ponds and smaller lakes in this region so that is where we are focusing our efforts this year...........

Not sure it is really going to matter much, ducks will still migrate, happens every year. Same story every year, people do not see ducks in there area and think we have none, not really the case at all. You just have to be mobile, one lake will be empty and another will be loaded, that's what I have been seeing the last few weeks.
Friday was the only day I did not see numbers all year but the same lake I saw well over 1,000 ducks yesterday. Ducks migrate through the area, some stay depending on weather and some move on, just the way it goes. We have had a very good first split, hunted 10 days out of the last two weeks and saw plenty of birds each day on different lakes. You just have to find them. Some lakes have none, believe me I have looked at them too but others may be loaded.
Weather does play a big roll in the type of birds we see from day to day though.
