I have a milo plot planted for dove. The pasture around it though is bahia grass and a mixture of random weeds.

I was thinking of spraying it with Roundup next month sometime and letting the grass die, then burning it. The goal is for the random grass and weed seeds to be left on bare ground. I've read fire can be an effective method to attract dove.

Does this sound like a decent idea? My plan was to provide a food source in late July before the milo is ready to shred in August.

I think traditionally it's a spring wheat that is burned a couple weeks out. I don't think it can hurt to try, especially if it gives you a clean slate for planting something in that area for the following year.

Burning in the heat of the Summer, be very careful. Not something I would do.

If the fire gets out of control you are liable.
