Shot this gadwall a few years ago. The band is extremely worn. No trace of any numbers or anything on it. I finally decided to send it in today to see if I can get the info on it. Anyone else sent one in before?

My son killed a redhead a couple years ago with a slick band. Nothing legible on half the band. He was afraid to send it in thinking he would not get it back or it would be lost in the mail.

A forum member posted a how to using acid from home depot. I followed it to the letter and it worked perfectly raising the numbers where they could be read.

Entered the info on the website. Duck had been banded 8 years prior. I think the salt water is hard on them

Wish I would have known. It's probably the same thing they do. That too is what kept me from sending it in. We'll see I guess

I cannot for the life of me remember the kind of acid used. I just put it on a dowel rod and swirled it around and bingo. Washed it off and coated in baking soda to stop the acid effects.

Maybe he will post up, have not seen him here in some time. Great Guy

Sent mine in to the bird banding lab in Maryland and the etched it in just a week or two and sent it right back no problem. Banded 9 years before as at least a 1 year old bird.

I sent one in, the raised the numbers and sent it back fairly quickly, don't remember how long but it wasn't like waiting on taxidermy or anything.
