What do you use when its cold?

Get some good thermals the kind that fit tight to your legs I use under armor. Then some cebelas wader liners and jeans if you need them. For socks I use cabelas thermax liners and cabelas ultimate wool heavy weight if real cold.i just got two wader liners, two pair of wool socks and two packs of thermax so socks for around $100.

I wear warm clothes when it's cold

Garrett do you wear a jacket as well....would you recommend wearing some kind of jacket when it's cold?

Jackets are tough, you almost have to have several jackets. You need a light jacket, a medium jacket and a heavy jacket (aka coat) in order to stay comfortable. Nothing worse than having to much or not enough jacket.

Garrett is more of a vest guy. It's all about the core.

Try Columbia liner or jacket with omni heat. I have the liner and it is the lightest and warmest piece of clothing I have ever tried and I am a big wus when it comes to being cold.

Breathables and liners down to 40ish....then 3.5mm neoprene and fleece liners under that.

The older Army issue brown poly pro's (circa late 1990's through the end of the BDU days)... normally the base layers are all I need, but if it's nasty cold I put the thick ones on under my Supermags and come back 10lbs lighter than I left. The new one's are nowhere near as warm. They were $14 per set at the surplus store in AZ so I bought them completely out of L and XL base layers and I still have my original issue thick layer.

When it's going to be below freezing and stay there...

A wicking layer like hot Chili's or under Armour next to the skin with M51 Korean War era 100% wool pants with a wool sweater. Maybe top that off with a wind proof shell. Arctic weight wool socks and wool full finger gloves.

You will be warm. So warm that you will have to start taking layers off when the temperature starts to get up to freezing.

Its all about the layers, teal season light mil issue poly pro (abrasion protection), November may step it up to the thick poly pro as suggested by Scooter. December I wear thick fleece pants and may add light poly pro. January keep the thick fleece and upgrade to the thick poly pro. For me its my feet that get real cold. I ordered one size larger in boots so I could insert some "Pak" type boot liners, feet are toasty warm on the cold days with a light pair of socks. Top typically matches the bottoms for layers. Cabelas stoped makeing the best coat and pants in my opinion, dry plus breathable 150 gram thinsulate, the coat is always with me, the pants I typically wear with hip waders and when under freezing for a couple days i will wear the pants in waders. Gloves, military cotton with rubber palms for temperate (dont get wet in cold) in colder weather military issue wool gloves, super cold or hunting from boat I slip on larger neoprene gloves over the wool.

Below freezing, I wear a pair of Whitewater Merino Wool thermals under a pair of Cabela's fleece wader pants and that seems to do the trick. Above freezing I just wear the wader pants with synthetic underwear. Above 50 I just wear the Whitewaters. If its in the teens, I have a super thick pair of red wool hunting pants from the 50's (think Santa Claus here) that I'll wear over my base layer instead of the fleece pants. Up top, I wear a cabela's Arctic weight thermal top, layered with a green wool sweater if its below freezing, or a fleece vest for 32-50 degrees, or just the thermal itself above 50 degrees. Below 50 I wear a drake MST jacket (do not recommend in wet conditions), below freezing I wear a Cabela's waterfowl parka (do recommend wearing without the liner). Socks are the heaviest merino wool I could find, I wear liners when its below freezing. Also, without fail in cold weather, I always have a pair of Zippo pocket warmers. Once you start using these, you will never again use chem paks. I keep them in my upper ches pockets of my jacket and they keep my upper body and hands warm. Well worth the $20 IMO.
