Finally got my first canada goose. Had a couple groups decoy, had some more gun malfunctions today which cost me a few birds but I was happy to get one. I lost a second goose and a drake goldeneye in the current which really sucked. It was a beautiful morning, Temps were just above 0 with wind chill about -3. Definitely my coldest hubt ever. My friend went in over his waders going after the other goose and we had to cut our morning short.

Yeah a new shotgun is coming soon, I can't say anything bad about that old 1100 though, it's been through 3 seasons of rough hunting. It's killed me over 500 ducks and god knows how many doves. It handled dove and pheasant shot just fine but the high brass duck shells just are too much for it now I guess.

They're suppose to be pretty common around here so I think I'll get another shot.

Congrats! you are getting to experience some good hunting. I had several 1100's through the years, all traded away now. My experience is once they start to wear out they will not function in the extreme cold. You probably already know this but run it dry, or use some of the new dry film lubes which are supposed to be good down to -40. I use the dry film now and works good for me but the coldest I have run it is 0. I would not wait on a new gun. Get it now while you are up there, and because your old gun is going to let you down again. To much hard work and effort to get out there and your gun does not work. Very frustrating and can turn a great memory hunt into a nightmare. I have been there!

Even an O/U will freeze in weather that cold. But pumps won't unless lubed excessively.
