I have a call that is so far out of tune it would scare the dead ducks out of my game carrier.

I. CANNOT. GET. THIS. STUPID. THING. TUNED.

I liked it before, brother and I messed with it a little, and now its a total POS.

All that to say, does anyone have any good info on how to tune a call, and/or anyone in Waco very good at it?

Single reed RNT, btw

Have you already done a lot of reed trimming? If you've gone too far with the reed, you can't get it back, replace reed.

Thanks for the note. I know that; I have spares, and its the spares that I'm having terrible trouble with.

First off what type of call is it? Brand and model? The best or most important question is what does "Brother and I messed with it" mean, exactly?

2nd post specifies Single Reed RNT. It is a Daisy Slayer.

"Brother and I messed with it" = Just trying different reeds and changing the cork, because it got (human) blood on it.

Have I thought about sending it to RNT - heck yes. That is where I am at right now. I just don't want to be without it for a couple weeks while it is in the mail. On the other hand, it is not doing me any good right now, so it can't hurt.

Other than the tuning problem (my fault), it is a great call. I really liked it before I went to fidgeting with it

Now - at least I think I remember correctly - it is much higher pitched, especially with a feed call / chuckle

Send it in and pick up a DC Duck Picker as a backup.. They're cheap and as soon as I can post pics I'll send my results from this weekend as proof they work! Not to say its a better call.. but a good and inexpensive backup to a great call! That and the triple threat just happen to be my A-team (can't rationalize a $150+ call on a teacher's salary)!

Higher pitch and squeaky. Original reed was damaged. Trying to tune a replacement reed to the right place is what has been frustrating.

Flip the reed over, you might have it upside down.

I've played with that a little. For the record, which direction should the reed bend?

Also, the original reed is a hair longer than the replacements I have

I think reed length is my problem. A tad short

If you send it to RNT they usually have it back to you in 2 days from when it gets to their shop.
