I just got this email from the president of our subdivision.

Got a note from Kelly Strnadel today – feral hogs have done significant damage to Robert McMillian’s yard (photo attached). I have contacted the County Extension service and a private company (BNJ Hog Removal) to evaluate the problem and let me know:

What should be done (if anything),
When it needs to be done,
How it should be done, and
How much it will cost.

No decision on anything will be made without appropriate Board or property owner approvals.

Thanks!
Ron Grimes

Anyone in the Katy area want to trap them?

The best most effective way to kill them is to shoot them in the face, from a very short distance. The only thing more effective is djones

In a residential area trapping is pretty much the only option, but to do it well will take time and effort.

Here's an article from Texas A&M describing dedicated efforts to trap hogs —

I have two unwritten rules:
1.
2.

When - immediately while the soil is wet.
How - Guns every night and or traps
What - Kill them all
Cost - Homeowner can decide that for himself.

I've heard this story before... "Oh no our precious lawns-won't somebody please help us!!!!"... Then people offer to come and shoot them and then the crying, and whining, and hand-wringing starts about *guns* being brought into the equation. Then the discussion on the potential of lawsuits.. Then the homeowners association gets involved, then the board.. Then NOTHING ever gets accomplished because of all the bureaucracy. You could change "pigs" to "coyotes" and you'd have the same formula as I've laid out above.

NOTHING appreciable will happen and the pigs will just move off on their own as they usually do being nomadic and all. The next time they start rooting up peoples yards the same BS process will start over with not a single hog shot, or killed. It's almost like fake news. It gets you excited, and nothing ever comes from it. We'll call it "Hog Blue Balls".

Bill, if they can ever get over the idea of an animal actually being killed, you can call on me any time. I live in Houston and have thermal, silenced rifles, and am available most evenings. Barring that.. I hope the hogs have decided to move on to new territories.

A hog is nothing more than a bullet receptacle.

I am caught up in this myself, half the HOA don't want you out there and the other half are begging you to do something. This can easily cause you trouble with the law so you better have some sort of contract on you.

Usually not a big fan of music on hog hunting videos, at least you have good taste in music. smile

What rifle and round are you shooting? You seem to have alot more spray on contact than most and you seem to have perfected the somersault hit. up

Sad but true.
Have you considered this?

If the hogs find out the HOA is even considering djones, they'll probably leave the area.

This!

I'm also in west houston with suppressed rifles, thermals scopes and gen 3 NV. Safe ethical hunter and always follows the land owners rules and concerns. References available. YouTube videos of previous eradication hunts available. but if it's a neighborhood in Katy, I'd bet pigs would fly before eradicating them with guns would.

Kawabuggy, where do you hunt at around here? I kill hogs and coyotes for a land owner just west of Winnie that I need to visit soon and could use an experienced hand!

Fast paced gregarious society forgets the healing power of solitude. It's worked thousands of years. Casting a line/gazing into a campfire/sitting in a blind after a long week is medicine for the soul. The serenity and peacefulness of it all is majestic.

There’s only one thing in the world better than shooting pigs in the face from short distances.........
