I have begun to have a pig problem on my place in Coke county. I put out a trap with corn I soured using cheap beer. Soured it for about a week. So far I have caught 3 deer. They get it B4 the pigs come. I now have some corn that has sat for about 3 weeks. It's really stinky, rotten. Will the pigs come to that? Hoping its too nasty for the deer.

Gotta be really rotten stinky to keep deer off.
But if the deer are really hungry, who knows?

Or try soaking your corn in diesel to keep coons, rabbits, squirrels, deer and other critters off of it until it rains and washes the diesel off.
It will also wash off after 3-4 morning dews if it lasts that long before something eats it.

I doubt you can discourage the deer from eating the corn. Souring the corn just gives it a little more odor (sort of a sweet smell) that the hogs can smell from a longer distance and attract them. I use a little soured corn occasionally when the traps really slow up. Using plain water will work just as well as anything. I keep 5 gallon bucks in the back of my hunting truck. Occasionally I fill some with water...just slightly over the corn level. Let it set for a couple days and it's ready to go.

I have never heard of anyone trying to keep deer from eating corn by souring it. They will eat it as others have noted.

Soured corn can be used as an attractant for hogs, deer, raccoons, opossums, rats, ants, and even some birds. I have had turkeys gobble up some of mine. Hogs may not come to it right away until they are used to the new, smelly bait if they have not experienced it before. It is something strange and so they may initially avoid it. Once they learn what it is, then you are good to go.

My limited experience is that most animals tend to avoid sour corn unless they're hungry. It smells bad, and it probably doesn't taste much better than it smells. But, hogs will eat just about anything and more so when they're hungry. So, sour corn will sometimes stay around until the hogs find it since it's so repellent. YMMV.

Where I hunt the deer and raccoons are almost always the first to find corn I've set out, and it can be difficult to keep deer from getting caught in a trap. I placed a wire (on my box trap) about six inches from the top of the entrance, and strung another a couple of feet inside (just beyond the doors). So far that's kept the bucks with antlers out. Their antlers hit the wire and they back out. I've caught a couple of does, but they're much easier to release.
