Do any one here hog hunt on Ft hood. That would like some company. I want to get in to hog hunting but I know nothing about hogs other then they are smart and mostly hunting at night. I would like to meet someone who hunts and would be willing to show me around. I say Ft Hood because its the only place I can hunt

Im gonna tell you exactly what I did.

I went on google maps on my computer and I found a bunch of places in a couple different areas that I was interested in hunting. Once I found spots that look good i.e. close to creeks, ponds, cover I went out and physically scouted the areas. Some areas already had stands and feeders some didn't. Once I got there I looked for sign and if I found descent sign I spread out some corn and put up a camera. After a few days I went back and corned the areas again and replaced the SD cards. Once I got home I had a couple spots that had hogs on camera so I kept hand corning those areas and then finally put up some feeders. You can't take any shortcuts with your sets or you won't ever see animals while there bc they are very skittish and smart. They will almost always approach from downwind of the food source and many of them are nocturnal. All of the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s pretty much have hogs. I have killed about 15 or so since December but have been skunked many times and I hunt day and night. If you think you are just gonna go throw some corn and sit there and kill a hog your chances are low you need to put in some thought and strategy. If your gonna go out and scout you should get to it soon bc if not you will be walking through other hunters bow hunting and gun hunting sets while scouting.

Also there is a new wed based check in system so you need to go to the Sportsmans center and register and then get all the licenses and area access pass. You also need to read the entire Ft Hood hunting book bc there are a lot of rules and regulations to know.

There are also guided hunts once deer season starts where you will have a chance to see hogs.

The best thing to do is go to Sportsmans center and ask as many questions as you need.

I know the ft hood regs I get the book every year, read it and take it with me every time I go out. I know there is no short cut. I just don't know what I am looking for.
