I think I've figured out that deer season's only purpose is to have a way to kill time, waiting for the sun to set. smile After about 7 sits I think it is, I have yet to see antlers, but I have been seeing some curly tails!

After another long disappointing day, I decided to go look for some hogs before heading home. Riding the lease roads with no lights, using my Thermal to see, I come upon a sounder close to a 4-way intersection by a well site with pumps, motors and jacks running so I had some cover. (My gloved fingers evidently didn't hit the buttons at the same time so no video frown )

As I pull up, a hog walks about 20 yds in front of me, stops, looks straight at me and walks on as if I wasn't there or he didn't care. I'm trying to find a place to post up and shoot and not shoot into the well equipment, lots of mud/ruts etc plus brush made it tough to walk in the dark. They appeared to somewhat be moving towards the crossroads so I decided just to get back in my Pioneer and see what happens. About 6-8 are making their way out (had I been a little more patient I'm convinced I could've hit several), so with adrenaline flowing by the gallon it felt like given their distance, I popped the first one about 15-20 yds, he was DRT with a nice head/neck shot. Given they hadn't cleared the fence at the intersection, they turn and run back, clipped the second with my 3rd shot (broke a back leg) followed by two more to make sure she wasn't going anywhere. Got off two more shots at another before I had to stop due to the well gear.

I absolutely get the biggest charge out of all this happening up close at night. Need to learn to settle down and wait for the better shot oppty. One day... I'll get my chance at a sounder in an open field to better exercise my magazine.

Charlie

Any adventure with a prize is better than nothing. Good hunting.

Pretty soon you'll wonder why you ever bothered to hunt for deer.

Okay, I apologize to all the hard-core deer hunters. It's just that, for me, hogs are a more interesting pursuit.

I have two unwritten rules:
1.
2.
