Can a tool be too functional to appeal to most modern humans living in "advanced" societies? Yes

Not too advanced for those accustomed to using such tools. Actually more functional considering the leverage in downward pressure opposed to the leverage used in long handled knives humans in modern societies have been accustomed to. Only draw back one would need to switch tools for use of small point penetration. Defiantly in the right application it's more than functional.

Watching Agnes Hailstone working on moose, caribou and seals with similar knives on "life below zero" shows the utility of the design.
