I have one made by Jimmy Lile before he past. Any idea the value?

Thinking about shopping it at the Knife show this weekend.

Picture? anything special for the scales? Condition? And finding the buyer who wants that exact knife.

But looking around the internet generally speaking a wood/stag scaled Model 7 will realistically fetch around $700. Lile's knives aren't big movers unless they are a rare/unusual build.

Man that would be on for a collection I'd love to have but can't afford it.

I met Lile back in 1980, actually traded him a complete Fuji 35 mm camera with four lens and some accessories in return for several various knives. Visited with him in Arkansas several times. My question would be whether he actually did the work or if it was done in his shop. Sort of like Mr Stone. It made a difference in value. Sorry that I am not acquainted enough with his work to tell but you may get asked that question...

Good question Blackcoal, I inherited this from my Uncle. He was born in Mena Arkansas, lived in Houston. He was gun and knife nut, drug me to G.W. Stones shop off Floyd Road in Richardson, TX. when I was young, LONG time ago. He was very knowledgeable of what was what, so I would "think" it was made by Lile himself.

Also many years ago there was a small Mall in Dallas/Richardson called OLAPADRIDA. There was a knife shop in there who sold some high end knives, Lile, Stone, Randall, etc. I used to love going in there about 30-35 years ago.

Is there a way to tell if it was LILE's work? There are no other markings on it, just the LILE stamp you can see. I spoke with the Knife maker who sells the Sporting Magazine subscriptions at the Dallas Safari Club show about this knife. I meant to take it and show it to him last January but I ended up missing the DSC show.

Buzz, I have no reason to doubt the knife was made in Jimmy's shop, my question was whether it was made during the time Lile was doing the work himself or later when he had more apprentices in the shop. I have no idea how to tell but real Lile collectors might. Two funny thoughts come to mind with Mr. Stone. First time I went to his shop in Richardson was around 1980, and I thought wow, nice looking Gold Wing parked over out of the way. Was surprised when I learned it belonged to Stone. Second thing was behind his display counter there was a 4" bare steel post and Stone scared me when he pulled one of his knives from the display case and started beating the bejabbers out of that post, then showed me how his blade was unmarked.

I remember the shop in Olla Padrida well, the owner was actually a good friend of Lile's and was instrumental in the camera trade I made with Lile. I probably bought 10 knives out of that store and learned a lot of good info about knives, what to look for and how to tell the difference. This again was about 1980 because I had moved to Grayson county but still had my office at 75 and Loop 12. I would try to stop in about once a week to see what he had bought or had on consignment. Have some good memories of those times.

This is complicated.

The worth of any good or service is determined by the free market. Consumers are the arbiters of worth.

Therefore, your knife is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. Auction it off to determine what it's worth.

Good luck.

Great story Blackcoal, I bet we must have crossed paths at some time. I remember the man who worked in the shop at Ollapadrida, I used to see him at gun shows but haven't seen him in a LONG time but I don't do many shows anymore. He was really nice.

I wish I knew you were up North. when I was working , Tuesdays I would drive to Denison and get my sales order from Nick at Nick's Family Restaurant. We could have had some coffee and talked about all this stuff

Buzz, bet that road still runs north. Heck, I'm staying busy on some acreage over in Cooke county. Trying to clean and fence it. If you have a fireplace I will load you up with firewood. KRoyal can give you instructions to our property.

I had the same opinion of the fellow at Olla Padrida. I remember he had a strange accent, sort of NYC and LA with some Chicago and ???? mixed in together. If memory serves me correctly he was a district or regional sales rep with one of the major tire companies at one time...

I believe at one time you were interested in S&W revolvers and I am going to get rid of some. You can shoot them and buy the ones you like.
