I've applied for some general tags: exotics, pronghorn, mule deer and a few others. I'm not a rifle guy at all. Honestly don't even own a deer rifle. Has anyone ever been awarded one of these tags then, asked the biologist or whoever puts on the hunts if they could take archery gear? I could borrow a rifle if need be, but would much rather take a bow.

Usually it states whether a weapon is restricted, i.e., Only center fired rifles may be used.
If you get drawn, to find out for sure, just call the area and find out. I have been drawn on rifle hunts where they allowed me to use my bow. Some places won't.

If you are lucky enough to get drawn for one of the hard-to-draw rifle hunts you better beg, borrow or steal a rifle with a scope and learn to shoot it.You'd be out of your freakin' mind to show up with a bow. What if you're sitting in a blind at Chaparral WMA and a 200" buck-of-a-lifetime steps out at 80 yards? If you got a rifle, that's a chip shot and it's head goes on your wall. If you have a bow all you can do is start openly weeping and sobbing uncontrollably, which you will do for the rest of your life every time you recall that day! This coming from someone who has been primarily a bow hunter the last 28 years.

I don't care to shoot a 200" fence deer at chap. I didn't even put in for their rifle hunt. I was mainly talking about the mule deer and pronghorn

Plus, I've got a pin for 80 yards grin
