fellow hunters I need some advice. I know better than to ask for spots BUT. I was hoping for some wisdom on how you have located turkeys on public land? We have walked and walked and walked but still having a hard time finding birds. We have done the usual call and wait we have done the just walk quietly and listen but still no luck.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
thank you!!

Get there before daylight. Most gobblers, especially easterns, will gobble a few times while on the roost. Once they hit the ground, they get lock jaw. As long as they don't get disturbed on the roost, they usually roost in the same area. Find the roost, you will find the birds.

Right now you can hit 2 rocks together and they will gobble. Here they gobble all morning.

I killed a bird on opening morning on public land that just wouldn't shut up. He fired off for no reason (I didn't use any locator calls) and kept at it until he flew down. When he flew down he went quiet... mainly because of 2oz of #6s that I sent his way....
