Saw this today on RCWMAs facebook. Just thought I'd share. https://www.facebook.com/RichlandCreekWMA/?fref=nf"Richland Creek and Big Lake Bottom WMA hunters, We regret to inform you that Richland Creek and Big Lake Bottom Wildlife Management Areas will not have special permit white-tailed deer hunts for the 2016-17 season. Over the past 18 months, the Trinity River floodplain has received tremendous amounts of rainfall resulting in the second and third largest floods on record. Throughout these large flooding events and numerous minor floods the WMAs have experienced prolonged inundation resulting in extensive infrastructure damage as well as impacts to the white-tailed deer herd. Flooding during the spring of 2015 and 2016 caused the loss of two consecutive fawn crops resulting in the loss of two age classes of deer from the population. These losses impacted the deer population level and overall health of the deer herd. In addition to the loss of the fawn crop, prolonged inundation during the winter of 2015 displaced adult deer from the WMAs resulting in greater harvest and mortality rates, especially to the male segment of the population. Neighboring upland landowners reported harvesting significantly more mature bucks during the 2015 flooding. In an effort to manage the WMA deer herd and allow the population to recover from these events, hunts will not be conducted during the 2016-17 season. As the herd rebounds from these floods we will continue to survey the population and adjust our management actions accordingly. We anticipate resuming white-tailed deer hunts during the 2017-18 season. The staff at Richland Creek and Big Lake Bottom WMAs strive to provide the hunters of Texas with quality hunting opportunities while maintaining a healthy and productive deer herd. If you have questions about our deer management program please feel free to contact one of our WMA biologists to discuss. RCWMA: 903-389-7080 BLBWMA: 903-928-2251"

Man losing that place from the draw system stinks. I always enjoyed hunting there.

Losing 2 consecutive years of fawn crops is tough on a herd. Hopefully 2017 will be better!

Thanks for sharing. One way to look at it, what bucks that found high ground in a core santuary and survived the last two years are getting bigger. Fewer deer can bring bigger deer from those that survived. Might be a good trophy potential in a year or two.

If duck hunting areas don't get flooded out like last year.
