Noticed on their facebook page they will have no drawn rifle hunts for this year but will allow bowhunting from Oct 3rd thru Dec 31st. Stopped by their visitors center this morning on the way home from work to see about getting a permit and some more information but no one was there. Might have been a little early I guess will try again tomorrow. Anyway the place looked pretty nice has anyone on here ever hunted there? If so I would appreciate some tips on what to expect as this will be my first yr ever hunting public land but gotta do what I can to be in the woods this fall. I have heard lots of horror stories about people trying to hunt on public land and having others walk right thru their setup like they could care less. I am not that way I respect other hunters and the last thing i want to do is stumble up in their setup and mess up their hunt. So for those of yall who hunt public land any advice you could give about how to avoid other hunters setups will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

We were drawn for both youth and general hunt last year. Son shot a decent 8pt in youth, but we did not kill during the general rifle hunt. Was very disappointed to hear there would be no gun hunts this year.

Have hunted public land since one opened down the road... Over 20 yrs, cant remember whin it opened... If ya hit woods early & leavr late... Cheap gps is nice getting to & from stand in dark... See alot of flags during hog hunts were people mark trails, have seen reflecter pins... i counted steps... once or twice had ta wait till got light ta find stand, usualy just not to far away... People need ta realize its open ta public, & its not like a lease were every one has assinded seats... Tought our kids if happen ta walk inta some ones area, apolagize & find another... Theirs several that hunt close ta main trails... i've walked inta areas have hunted before, & some one had stand their.. Just eased out & found another... My favoret time archery hunts were, the archery deer& hog & shotgun, rimfire, muzzleloader squirrel&hog hunts... Archers have ta wear orange then to.. Got in my climber, went up extra foot wrapped irange vest around tree, then eased down foot... Hunters could see orange from distance, their movement & dogs movement kept things moving... Not always in your direction, but ya never know... They usualy keep moving.... Best wishes... flag
