Good afternoon, First, I would like to say Good Luck and God Bless to yall as the Deer rifle season is coming in.
Second, I was doing some fishing at one of the bayous in Bush Park (Houston/Katy, Texas). Its good to see the forest is doing okay, considering it just been through one of the worst hurricane flooding every reported.
For those that don't know, George Bush Park is the "Barker Reservoir" which was all over the news when Hurricane Harvey hit. It's a flood plain intended to hold flood water in.
I've seen many hog tracks around, and even saw a nice doe on the walk back to the truck. I know it has a problem with hogs from time to time, as I often see wallows on the bank of the bayous.
I was wondering if it was possible to get the State to make it a "Draw Hunt" for the public. 7800 acres big, more than half is dense forest.
It's also used by joggers and cyclists, but they stick to the paved trails. Most of these are in the south side of the park.

I live right by there. We actually back up right to barker and got flooded. We walk our dog through there all the time and I've found some really good sheds. I think it would be a great spot for an urban hunt.

Great idea, even if has to be bow only.

Great idea, even if has to be bow only. Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking. Quiet so the walkers and cyclists can have their share, while we get to make a dent on hog management.

I read the article. Dang, that sucks. However, this was published in 2009. Alot has happened since then, and the pedestrians and cyclist that use the park, only use about 20% of it. It's been 8 years, and every recent article I've read in regards to the hog population in Texas has concluded the same: We're losing against the hogs because we're not doing enough to curb the overpopulationAnyone know to whom I can write a letter to?

The hogs are ridiculous out there. I've come across multiple traps so I know they have someone contracted to trap but doesn't seem to be working. And we were in an apartment and now are in a new one. Could've been a lot worse.

There are some BIG whitetails in those bottoms. Cottonmouths and gators, too.

That would be awesome, get to sleep at home and have a real short drive. I’m sure the local animal lovers would love it.

A few years ago I called and talked to the Corp guys and asked why they haven't opened up an area in there for hunting. The reason for me doing this is because of a project I was working on to help maintain the levees and I had to travel down there to do a site visit. While driving all over the place I was able to see the abundance of wildlife.
So, the Corp guy told me that they were interested and TPWD had shown little to no interest themselves. So my next call was to TPWD to ask why they weren't more interested. The guy I spoke to there told me that they were and that was not how the Corp had responded when they first approached them about the idea of opening hunts. I suggested he might want to call the Corp guy again after the discussion I just had.
I felt I did my part but there's still no hunts.
