My first successful draw this year with TPWD Public drawn hunts. I lucked out and drew the archery hunt at Gene Howe WMA. Anyone out there have any advise, recommendations, or warnings about hunting this WMA?

One of my favorite places to hunt. I drew the anterless/spike tag twice (some reason hasn't been offered for the last two years) and always had success thought can't say I ever recall seeing a buck. I suspect the compartments along the river are more conducive to archery.

Thanks TWarren, the hunt I drew is in Nov. and prior to the rifle hunt. I hope the rut is on!! Lookin forward to hunting in something different than the piney woods or swamps of SE Texas. I wonder if they have much of a mosquito problem up there?

Both times I hunted were in early November and I don't recall encountering mosquitoes. I would bring a bottle of bug spray but not really worry about it unless it is unusually warm. The only nuisance I encountered was sand burrs in the camping area.
