Got a question.

So on a waterfowl E-Public hunt. If im drawn for a weekend can I take my father with me or will he be required to submit an application too?

It says 1-4 people per application, but Im not sure if that means I can bring up to 3 additional people with me??

Anyone know the answer to that question?

You add him to your application when you apply. The three additional people must be on your initial application. You can't just take whoever you want after your drawn. If you apply separately, he could get drawn and you not. Also if drawn everyone on your postcard draw will have to purchase an APH permit to go on the hunt. They can't hunt under your permit.

The so called "postcard" draws are almost impossible to draw now that it is no longer a real snail mail postcard draw. Since it is a free draw, with no fee, residency, or license requirement to apply, many people by convenience put in for postcard hunts on the chance they "might" go if drawn. Probably a few anti hunters in that mix as well trying to save a duck. When it was a real postcard draw, I think having the go to the effort of filling out and mailing a postcard rather than clicking a couple boxes with a mouse, weeded out most of the people not as serious about actually going on the hunt.

Yea, I miss those days. I actually enjoyed the ritual of filling out the postcards and mailing them in, knowing that not many others would go to the effort. Same goes for filling out the draw apps.

I do miss those days as well. I had a strategy of printing out interesting dog hunting scene photo postcards with the hope they would be more likely to pull it out of the hat. Maybe it worked. I have been on three snail mail type II postcard hunts drawn during the old way.

Yes, I definitely preferred the old system. I had much better luck but I also enjoyed pulling out my old folder with all my previous hunt selections and looking at the odds and working through everything. It took hours putting everything together just the way I wanted them and mailing it out. I wish it would go back to the old way. I enjoyed the entire process.

This is a problem, they should at least require and validate you hunting license stamp # before they allow you to put in for these hunts.

Yep, this would also cut down on out of state applicants who probably won't show up anyway.

Just curious about something. Are there other states that have a similar system in place? Say I wanted to hunt Elk or Mule Deer in Colorado or whatever other state has them. Do they also have a drawing system for non-residents to enter?
Hell, I'd burn the vacation time to go someplace else even if it's just to see the scenery!

Every western state has some type of draw system in place for deer, elk, antelope, sheep, goats, moose. Some have decent odds of drawing and some are almost impossible, Even with lots of loyalty/bonus/preference point there are places you will not draw for tens of years.

Here in Idaho, we have a pretty good system with no points and everyone gets the same chance of drawing every year. You have to buy a $150 non-res license to apply, but if you don't draw then you can still buy a deer or elk tag over the counter. NR's are limited to up to 10% of the total number of tags available. To sweeten the pot for NR's, those tags can also be substituted for a bear, wolf, or mountain lion.

If anyone ever wants more info on hunting here, please feel free to contact me and I will be glad to help out.

Blank is correct, I have hunted in Idaho for bear, deer, and elk all on OTC license. Had a great time there, harvested my first black bear there. This season I was successful in drawing a Mule deer tag for NW Colorado and plan to purchase an OTC Elk tag for the same hunt period. You have to start researching in Dec or Jan for many out of state drawings. Most are very long odds but you won't win if you don't apply!!!
