(KXXV) - Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge has announced its 2017 hunting season schedule. Every fall the wildlife refuge offers public dove hunting and big game hunting. The dove hunt will be from noon to sunset on the first four days of dove season, September 1-4. It will take place on 279 acres in Williamson County. There will be up to 70 permits issued, first come, first served. For the big game hunt, there will be 11,612 acres open in Burnet, Williamson, and Travis counties. Hunting will begin at 1 p.m. on the Friday of each weekend. The youth hunt will be November 10-12, general hunt one will be November 17-19.; general hunt 2 will be December 1 - 3 and the last general hunt will be December 8-10. Permits for big game hunting will be selected by the Texas Parks and Wildlife lottery system. You can access that here. more: http://www.kxxv.com/story/35818836/balco...eason-announced

They (Balcones) had the best information about their hunts compared to the others. I wish they were all that informative on the hunt brochures.

I agree that the Balcones had great info. I have hunted it 4 times prior to it joining TPWD draw system. With the TPWD draw system I will probably not be able to hunt there again. If you do you will be at there mercy as to what compartment you are assigned. Some of the compartments have very low populations of white tail. Some are pretty good. Good luck in the draws. To far for me to go and try to get onthe dove hunt.
