Got a youth hunt next weekend for my boys. Our previous drawn hunts have been box hunts but this one is by compartment. I assume we will be able to set cup anywhere in the compartment. Only a weekend hunt. Any tips or advice for helping choosing a nice spot on these compartment style hunts? Both boys have hunters Ed; can my oldest setup by himself in the same compartment or will we all three need to stay togetherness? I have a pop up I think we can fit in Will test it this weekend.

Congratulations!!! This is a great park, great hunt and top notch park staff!!!
I went on this hunt last season with my son, the way it worked that time was, 4 to 5 kids (and accompanying adult) were assigned per compartment. After the hunt/security briefing we were taken to our compartments and drove around following our park Ranger. Once we drove all over our compartment he left it to us (parents) to decide which area we wanted to hunt. The compartments are large enough for every one to spread out safely. There were some wire blinds to which you can add branches and grass to cover, but not large enough for 2 people. I suggest you bring a popup blind or two in case your oldest can setup by himself, I'm not sure how that works. Definitely call the park, they will be able to help you and answer any questions you may have.
Here's my post from last year, hope it helps getting the answers you need:

My son and I camped there last weekend. We have never hunted it, but sure would like to! There were a TON of deer everywhere! We saw deer in every part of the park we went to. It's fairly thick cover over most of the park. The area around the Gorman Falls Trail was a little more open, so it seems like it would be a good place to see the most. Of course anywhere along the river would be good due to the water source. Also, the area by the "convention center" was really pretty and looked like it could be a good spot. I'm sure any compartment you get will be good due to the numbers of deer there. Hope this helps. Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

Thanks guys. I am super stoked as always to hunt with my boys. It's our 2nd TPWD of the year and 3rd ever. First two hunts we only saw one legal deer each weekend and my youngest was able to bag both. Hopefully, we will see more deer and even have a choice at a couple.

The hunt info says corn must be labeled for: aflatoxin less than 20 ppb. Any idea where to pick any up at?

Walmart has corn as do most feed stores with <20ppb aflatoxin. Actually, the only one I have seen that wasn't is Buccee's corn.

Good luck.

Ask for the compartment left of the campground on the river. Find a set up behind the dump, which is on the hill right before you drop down to the campground and a set up on the trail that goes along the river but past the primitive campsites. You can thank me later!!! wink
