This will be my first post as I am a new member. I am wondering if anyone here has ever hunted ducks in some of the ponds and small swampy lakes that are scattered throughout the National Forest? Seems to me that you could pull some ducks into them with some decoys. What do ya'll think? Any information or stories from anybody that has done it before? Thanks...

Yes I have. There can be lots of wood ducks. For that kind of hunting I would scout and be on the X rather than attempt to "pull" them in with decoys. When Deer season starts, especially weekends, expect conflict with Deer hunters hunting the same places. If Deer season is open, it's not worth the potential problems IMO.

Good luck, there are some real hidden jems off the beaten path in the National Forest if you have the time to find and scout them.

While deer hunting there I see lots of wood ducks. The deer hunters that do not want to put in a lot of leg work will use these areas for their set ups as well because they are not far walks. However I don't see many having an issue with the duck hunting, and they should realize they are not the only ones there. While I was deer hunting off the beaten path a duck hunter came to a swamp area that was flooded. I did not mind, and I moved. I ended up taking a nice buck at the new spot anyway. But if you only have one spot scouted out then you should not be on public land anyway.

There are not TONS of ducks here, and will be hard to limit out I would say, but if you are looking to add a notch on teh belt for a nice wood duck, it is not a bad place to start.
